The first steps of the Moldovan boxingIt was December 1945. The postwar Chisinau was lying in ruins. Yet the peaceful life began immediately after the artillery fire has faded away into the night and echoed no more. It was then when, on the pure white of the ring, for the first trainings, the disciples of Isidor Goldstein (subsequently, union category referee) have stepped. Among them were: Vitalie Dziuba, Mihail Agulnicov, Ivan Mocan, Iurie Bondarenco, Alexei Asipov, Serghei Chiasco, Oleg Brichin, Iurie Calinin and others. The first Championship of Moldova, with the participation of boxers from Chisinau, Balti, Tiraspol and Bender, took place in 1947. This year marks the official start of the Moldovan boxing history. During the same year, the Moldovan boxers, for the first time, took part in the USSR Championship. Howbeit, the Moldovan envoys managed to achieve victory only in 1956. Then, within the Voluntary Sports Society ”Pishevik”, their team ranked third. Mihaiul Gluhov and Pavel Luscevschii obtained silver medals while Vladimir Marcov and Anatol Gorbatov obtained bronze medals. In the same year, within the 1st Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR, Iurie Muzlaev and Boris Savcenco obtained very good results. In 1956, at the USSR Championship among juniors, Vladimir Andreev won the silver medal. In the national team of Moldova came talented young people from Tiraspol. These were the brothers Victor, Eugen and Vadim Josul, Eugen Bosco, Naum Sargorodschii and Nicolai Juja. In 1959, the Moldovan boxers participated within the 2nd Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR. Although they did not carry away the garland, they boxed with dignity. Vasile Peata, Iurie Muzlaev, Boris Ghitman, and Pavel Luscevschii ranked 5th. Some time later, Ghenadie Cuznetov got on the AUCCTU Championship podium, winning the silver medal. While the Alexandru Fedosov became medalist within the AUCCTU Championship among youth. The ring discovered new and new names. The pupils of the school from Balti – Leonid Ghesele, Eduard Miscenco, Grigore Tisari, Boris Priseatniuc, Mihail Zerchin and Valentin Soloviev. The cohort of Moldovan Masters of Sports is supplemented by Veaceslav Poslovschii, Vadim Nichitin, Eugen Jiltov, Veaceslav Stepico and Boris Oiherman. The real triumph was the performance of the Moldovan team within the 3rd Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR held in 1963. Our team ranked 5th. Vasile Peata won the silver medal and Alexandru Nefedov – the bronze one. One year later, within the 6th All-Union Spartakiad of the “Labor Reserves” Society held in Lvov, the Moldovan team ranked 3rd; Valeriu Dolgov became champion, Grigore Buzilo and Vladimir Ivanov - prize-winners. Year 1968, Kiev Palace of Sports. First All-Union Youth Games. The disciple of the Honored Coach of the MSSR, Boris Petuhov, Serghei Filimonov (Balti), as well as his pupils, Pavel Luscevschii, Vladimir Ivanov and Valeriu Dolgov returned home with the bronze medals. Year 1969, AUCCTU Championship, Ulyanovsk. Vladimir Poddubnii, the disciple of Rostislav Sustov, from Tiraspol, won the bronze medal. In these years, in Chisinau, Balti and Tiraspol, on a regular basis, union competitions, in which the youth strengthened their powers and gained valuable experience, were organized. Special mention should be given to the tournaments from Balti held in the memory of Boris Glavan. But let’s go back to the chronology. In 1972, at Balti, Regional USSR Championship; Vladimir Goltman and Mihail Trahtenberg became finalists. The “Labor Reserves” Society Championship held in Minsk is won by Valeriu Dolgov. Leonid Tomsa won the bronze medal. USSR Championship - youth, Barnaul. Rasid Abdicasev ranked third, while Alexandru Degteariov and Alexandru Caserin – 5th. Year 1973, All-Union Youth Games. The Moldovan team, under the guidance of the senior coach Pavel Luscevschii, ranked 6th. Rasid Abdicasev won the silver medal. Alexandru Suharev and Valentin Hristoforov, from Chisinau, won the bronze medals. Regretfully, within the 4th and 5th Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR, the Moldovan team had a poorer performance, ranking sixteenth (1967) and fifteenth (1971). Meanwhile, Pavel Luscevschii, Boris Petuhov, Vladimir Taranenco and Grigore Tisari were given the titles of Honored Coach of the MSSR for the high merits in preparing athletes while Isidor Goldstein, Dumitru Dadiani, Iurie Muzlaev and Eduard Trifanov became All-Union Referees.
